Some God, Some Angel, Some Devil - Out Now!

A man is haunted by the spirit of his dead wife.
He knows he murdered her but can’t remember why.
He has forgotten that a lodger is about to move in.
The screams of his dead wife obliterate all else.

A black comedy, a murder (possibly) a mystery (definitely).

This play was first performed in 1993 by Exiled Theatre.

ALL PROFITS FROM THE SALE OF THIS BOOK GO TO WORLDWIDE CANCER RESEARCH.

A little pressie for you all before we publish on Friday.

This is a filmed rehearsal on Act 3 Scene 2 of Edmund - Son of Gloucester. It was created in late 1995/early 1996 for the Waterside Theatre in Stratford Upon Avon so they could check we had the chops to perform in their lovely in-the-round space.

In this scene Robert Addie plays Soldier, Aidan Herd plays Spit and Adrian Ross Jones plays Edmund. It is a comic scene in which Spit tells the Soldier of Edmund's acts of derring-do.

Back in 2013 - 10 Years Ago on 19th September, Kev KThomas Oyston and I met in the flesh for the first time to launch "Tales from the Black Meadow" at Reading Library. It was a packed event and one that I look back on with real fondness. I have been enmeshed in the world of Black Meadow since then with 4 books, 4 albums and a host of events that explore this strange place and its phenomena.

To celebrate this I am publishing "Tales from the Black Meadow - The Play" on Tuesday 19th September. Back in 2017 I conducted a daft experiment, taking a coach load of students from Reading to Caedmon College in Whitby to perform the play for the first time in one day. We travelled across the Black Meadow through the mist to get there. It was subsequently performed at South Street Arts Centre, Reading and the Bradfield Greeker. It is like a fever dream now but hopefully this little book captures some of it.

I am really chuffed that Bob Fischer, who also attended the premiere, has kindly written a foreword.

Celebrate with us and get lost in the mist.

Due for release in January, this new collection of short stories by Chris Lambert will explore the mysteries of the Black Meadow in the greatest detail since the disappearance of Roger Mullins in 1972 caused all research to cease.

Following extensive research and battles with Whitehall this book is finally complete and promises to be the most extensive exploration of Black Meadow lore yet.

More details to follow.

The book will be released with an album of the same name by Castles in Space.

The Comic Mystery Plays - Review in The Church Times

Very pleased to announce a lovely review from Dennis Richards in the Church Times this month.

"CHRIS LAMBERT’s The Comic Mystery Plays are an inspiring idea for next year’s Easter services in primary schools. Teachers always appreciate a volume that does the job for them, and the scripts of these nine sketches will save hours of work for drama teachers.

They have an intriguing background: based loosely on the medieval mystery plays, they are in turn poignant, humorous, and trenchant. Furthermore, they take the Mystery Cycles from York and Wakefield as their inspiration. And, as any Yorkshireman will tell you, you cannot do better than that."

Lovely write up of Wyrd Britannia event at Todmorden

Black Meadow and Folklore Tapes joined forces on Saturday January 25th 2014 at Todmorden Library as part of the Wyrd Britannia festival. It was a lovely event. The place was packed (with some people having to stand at the back), whilst author Chris Lambert weaved his strange tales interspersed with facts about Black Meadow, documentary and music. The mood was spooky, Chris lit by a gel covered desk lamp on the floor, the audience sitting in rapt silence and stillness as he drew them into a world of Horsemen, Fog houses and Faustian pacts.

For an audience perspective check out this lovely entry by "A Year in the Country".
